Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
AI For Legal Research ("we," "our," or "us") operates the website aiforlegalresearch.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our Site. Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Site.
Our Site includes informational content, AI legal research tools, a legal document explainer, account features, and paid subscription plans. Nothing on the Site creates an attorney-client relationship, and the Site does not provide legal advice.
2. Information We Collect
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, we may automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site.
Information you provide voluntarily. If you use our AI tools, legal document explainer, account features, checkout flow, or contact form, you may voluntarily provide information such as your name, email address, message content, document text, uploaded file content, account details, and subscription-related information.
AI tool and document inputs. When you paste text or upload a document to an AI tool, the text you submit is processed to generate an AI response. Uploaded files may be parsed in your browser to extract text before submission. We do not store AI tool inputs or generated outputs in our database as part of the normal tool workflow.
Account and subscription information. If you create an account or subscribe, we may collect account identifiers, email address, plan type, subscription status, monthly usage counts, and billing-related identifiers needed to manage your access.
Local browser storage. We use browser storage such as localStorage and sessionStorage for limited product functionality, including tracking your daily free analysis allowance and temporarily carrying text from the homepage quick-start box to the legal document explainer. This temporary homepage handoff data is stored in your browser and removed after it is loaded into the explainer.
Cookies and tracking technologies. We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our Site and hold certain information, including authentication-related cookies and basic usage analytics. See our Cookie Policy for full details.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to: operate and maintain the Site; provide AI-generated outputs; authenticate users; manage daily free usage limits and paid plan quotas; process subscriptions; improve, personalize, and expand the Site; understand and analyze how users interact with the Site; develop new features; communicate with you for customer service and updates; prevent abuse, fraud, and excessive automated use; and comply with legal obligations.
4. AI Processing and Document Inputs
Our AI tools are powered by third-party AI providers, currently Anthropic's Claude API. When you submit text to an AI tool, that text is transmitted to our server and then to the AI provider to generate the requested response. The AI provider's processing is governed by its own terms and privacy policies.
We do not use your document inputs to train our own AI models. We do not intentionally log or store the full content of documents submitted to AI tools in our database. However, your content is transmitted through our systems and to the AI provider for the purpose of generating the output.
You should not submit confidential, privileged, highly sensitive, or third-party personal information unless you have permission to do so and your organization's AI use policy allows it. Attorneys and legal professionals should follow applicable confidentiality and professional responsibility rules before using any AI tool with client-related material.
5. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to outside parties except in the following circumstances: with service providers who assist us in operating our website and conducting our business, subject to confidentiality obligations; when required by law or to protect our rights; in connection with a business transfer or merger; or with your consent.
We may share aggregated, non-personally identifiable information about Site visitors publicly and with partners.
6. Third-Party Services
The Site may contain links to third-party websites, including AI tool vendors we review. These third-party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites.
We use or may use third-party services to operate the Site, including:
- Anthropic Claude to generate AI responses from submitted tool inputs.
- Supabase for authentication, account records, subscription status, and usage counts.
- Stripe for checkout, subscriptions, billing, and payment processing. We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.
- Analytics providers such as Google Analytics to understand Site usage.
- Client-side file parsing libraries for extracting text from supported document formats in your browser.
These service providers have their own terms and privacy policies. We recommend reviewing them if you use features that depend on those services.
7. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and enforce our agreements.
AI tool inputs. We do not store document inputs or AI outputs in our database as part of the normal AI tool workflow. Text temporarily stored in your browser to move from the homepage quick-start box to the legal document explainer is removed after loading.
Usage data. Anonymous daily free usage limits may be tracked using browser storage and server-side rate limiting data, including IP-based counters. Logged-in user monthly usage counts are retained with subscription records.
Account and billing data. Account, subscription, and billing-related records are retained while your account or subscription is active and as needed for tax, accounting, fraud prevention, legal, or dispute-resolution purposes. Contact form submissions are retained for up to 12 months unless you request deletion.
8. Your Rights
